About OcuLearning
OcuLearning is a free interactive ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology education platform. It was built because the eye is taught thinly almost everywhere outside ophthalmology itself: a handful of lectures, a diagram of the visual pathway, and then a career of patients with red eyes, double vision and sudden visual loss. The tools here are the ones we wanted and could not find.
Who it is for
Medical students, ophthalmology and neurology residents, ophthalmologists and optometrists, and the emergency and family physicians who see eye complaints first and have to decide how urgently they need someone else.
What is on the platform
- Condition library — 158 ophthalmic and neuro-ophthalmic conditions with symptoms, examination findings, red flags, investigations, treatment and differential diagnosis
- Neuro-ophthalmology eye exam simulator — animated eyes constrained by 43 real lesions, with a working penlight, near target and cover-uncover paddle
- Visual pathway simulator — lesion site to field defect, drawn as the patient sees it
- Vision simulator — how 21 conditions change a real photographed scene
- QBank — image-based clinical cases with progress tracking
- Diagnostic algorithms — five urgency-stratified decision trees
- Clinical calculators — 22 sourced calculators and scoring systems
- Flashcards — a 1,054-card Anki deck
Languages and platforms
The platform is available in English, French and Spanish, and runs on the web, on iOS and on Android. The clinical content is the same on every platform.
