Phacoemulsification (Cataract Surgery) Simulator
An interactive 3D cataract operation, from draping to wound hydration, modelled step by step rather than animated: a paracentesis and a main clear corneal incision cut as real tunnels, viscoelastic that actually fills and leaves the chamber, and a capsulorhexis driven by a tear-propagation model, so the tear runs out exactly the way a real one does when the flap is pulled in the wrong direction.
Steps of the case
- Microscope set-up and paracentesis
- Viscoelastic, main incision and continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis
- Hydrodissection and nucleus rotation
- Phaco insertion and sculpting, then cracking along the grooves
- Quadrant removal and cortical irrigation and aspiration
- Viscoelastic into the bag, intraocular lens injection and positioning
- Viscoelastic removal, wound hydration and the final check
Three modes
- Learn — each step is taught, demonstrated, then performed by you on guardrails, with the instrument guided along the ideal path
- Practice — the taught sequence, quietly, with help appearing only when you are stuck
- Assessment — no guidance at all; operate freely and get a scored report weighted toward safety and technique over speed
The simulator is a teaching model, not a validated surgical assessment, and its metrics are simulator metrics. A free OcuLearning account is needed to open it.
